On your next event program or annual yearbook, we’d like to give you tips on how to create a vibrant and exceptional booklet.

Here are a few key tips for successfully printing booklets.

1.  Know the Right Sort of Binding

Booklet printing is made sturdy by binding. There are different binding options used in books but for booklets, that are usually thinner, you can have 2 choices.

  • Saddle Stitch. Works best with booklets 8-40 pages.
  • Perfect Binding. Get this one for booklets with 20 -240 pages.

2. Binding Allowance

This is a common mistake. Always leave enough room for binding. This will ensure no important text or content from your booklet is removed or cut, which will render your booklet incomplete, and to a difficult to understand.

3. Structure Matters

Booklet printing requires a good copy. Remember this is marketing material and so it should be able to capture the attention of your intended readers. The best way to communicate your message is to ensure that your thoughts are organised. Interesting headings can make the difference for your booklets being taken home or being thrown away. Provide all the necessary contact information for them to get in touch with you.

4. Use Sharp and Compelling Cover Artwork

If you are printing magazines, news reports or monthly newsletters, your front cover can make or break your booklet success. Use the front headlines for a well-thought-out a copy. Add stunning and attractive images that complement your copy. You can never go wrong with a clever and crafty cover.

5. High Res Images Only

Using low-res images will dampen the quality and prestige of your booklets. If you do not have high res images, you can download from free or paid stock images sites.

6. Orientation is Crucial

If your booklet relies heavy on beautiful landscape images on, have the text printed in landscape orientation as well, to save your readers from having to adjust their heads when browsing or skimming your content. The key is to make the presentation easy and convenient for the readers.

7. Paper Weight Matters

Heavy papers offer that luxurious feel, they work best with 8- 12 pages. Use them in an 18 – 40-page booklet and everything will fall apart because the paper is too heavy for a standard saddle stitch. Opto for lighter paper with 120 – 150gsm if you have booklets that have more than 28 pages.

8. Paper Finish Standards

Do not fail your booklet project by using the wrong paper finish in the final product.

  • Gloss paper finish works best with vivid and vibrant images. Gloss coatings reduce ink absorption, that allows for excellent color printing and definition.
  • Uncoated or Silk paper works best with text-heavy booklets.
  • Laminated paper for that extra gleam and sheen and durability.

Perfect Your Cover

Make your cover standout by opting for the best paper and finish for your cover. A heavier paper makes your booklet appear sturdy and durable. High gloss finish works best with magazine prints that require popping out. Matte lamination, on the other hand, works best with low-key and professional looking booklets or brochures.
